It becomes very important to teach your children your heritage language so that with that , they will understand the way of life of their community so that they d not become aliens to their own very culture. A child who speaks his parent's heritage language will definitely understand their values also and with passage of time will make them a strong part of his personality. Immigrant parents who take keen interest in imparting their heritage language to their children find a very peaceful and rewarding life in their old age and see their children grow up to be adults who are respectful and well established in their heritage community.
Another reward that comes with you transferring your heritage language is that your heritage link will be kept intact as your children too will pass it on to their own children and so forth. They will keep the culture and language that you so much cherish along with the good moral values that you have passed on to them.
Yet the biggest joy is to be able to communicate simple things to your children in your heritage language in a place where you don't very frequently come across your heritage language speakers and instead of looking around to find a local from your country who shares your culture, you simply look at your own child and talk. You can safely talk with your child in your heritage language and the passersby will not have to know what you both are talking about, that is a moment of close intimacy even when you are among the crowd.
