Global Ecology and Our Future - A Book Review

When we talk with futurists, especially those that are serious environmentalists they want to shock us about what is going to happen in the future. Take Al Gore's famous docudrama about global warming, and you begin to see what I'm talking about. It is true that we need to pay attention to our environment and the ecology issues of our time. After all, we have to drink the water and breathe the air.

The oceans also grow our food, and they are ultra-important for human life. If the air becomes too polluted we cannot breathe it without having health issues. And these are all things we must consider. If you are a "far left environmentalist" I can tell you of a great book to read that you will love. If you are a right wing conservative and get tired of all the environmental overblown doom-and-gloomers then perhaps, you might like this book too, and it might stop and make you think.

The book that I like to recommend to you is one that I read because it was recommended by the World Futurist Society or WFS. The name of the book is;

"Building a Sustainable Society; We Have Not Inherited the Earth from Our Fathers, We Are Borrowing It from Our Children," Lester R. Brown, 1981, published by the world watch Institute

The author is very well known in futurist circles and this book is actually fairly decent. It talks about the challenges ahead with regards to ecology, and the environment challenges such as; expanding farmlands, water, nutrients and poor soil, expanding deserts, deforestation, overconsumption, oil coal, nuclear, food issues, genetically modified crops, runaway inflation in prices, and global competition.

He also talks about solutions for energy such as; cellulose ethanol, bio-waste, Hydro, ocean wave energy, solar, geothermal, and wind. And there are chapters on better transportation, smarter cities, and urbanization, and how to put it all together to help the Third World along with potential R&D programs, which he believes should be priorities. Indeed, I hope you will please consider this.

Water is a Global Crisis and Critical Challenge

Water is life and few can deny that here on Earth, without out the Earth Species simply do not do well at all, if the water goes so too does 90% of the species on this planet. I thus, would like to recommend a very good book to you:

"Water; A Global Challenge" Journal of International Affairs from Columbia University - Spring/Summer Edition 2008.

This work is a compilation of 13 very insightful essays and researched reports on Water issues that humanity faces from nearly every continent. There is an essay that dispels the myth of the water wars of past periods and discusses how international water disputes generally are dealt with. Each of the essays explains various crisis and how these challenges are currently being solved or how they are running ramped out of control.

The politics, economics, health and humanity of water is discussed, as well as future schemes of commoditizing water, and using price to control usage and conservation efforts. Learn about water issues in Australia, Middle East, Asia, Europe, United States, Bolivia, Andes Mountain Range and other places throughout the world.

Water is critical to humanities existence and the issues of scarcity, seasonality, droughts, flooding, pollution, cost are all very important components, which are brought to the forefront in this collection of works. The "Millennium Development" project is also discussed to bring everything into proper perspective to deal with this huge issue, as mega cities run out of water and billions of people attempt to survive with little if any fresh, safe and clean water.

Tired of the Global Warming Myth? Book Review For You

It seems as though every time we turn around we are being warned about the potential impacts of global warming. In the 1970s scientist claimed and they swore up and down that we were going into an Ice Age. That never happened, but they sure got a lot of people fearful, and were able to promote their agenda. If you are getting tired of the climate change fear mongering and global warming myth, then boy, do I have a good book for you to read, the book is called;

"The Real Global Warming Disaster: Is the Obsession with "Climate Change" Turning Out to Be the Most Costly Scientific Blunder in History?" By Christopher Booker; Continuum Publishers; New York, NY; (2009); 358 pages; ISBN: 144111056

In this book the author is quite concerned about all the misinformation, which has been purported in the media as scientific fact. He is also concerned how the politicians are moving their agendas, and making moves that will triple the cost of our energy, and inevitably make our businesses unable to compete in global markets due to the cost of energy to manufacture products in our country.

He also explains how the unions got behind global warming, as a way to put the pressure and tariffs on Chinese goods coming into the US, hoping that they would be able to manufacture more products to compete under the new legislation. One thing I enjoyed about Booker's book was that he was willing to expose the United Nations and the inter-governmental panel on climate change.

The reality is as Booker states; is that the real disaster of global CO2 warming will not come from the atmosphere, but rather mankind's response to the global climate warming propaganda and myths that are being purported. The author also suggests that the recent economic global crisis will be nothing compared to the calamity that will be caused through bad legislation such as the Cap and Trade Bill. And he believes we are headed off of a cliff, not a climate cliff, but an economic one. Please consider all this.
